Named Musical America’s 2012 Musicians of the Year, cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han rank among the most esteemed and influential classical musicians in the world today. Their appearances take them to the world’s most prestigious concert series and festivals as soloists, as a duo, and in a trio with violinist Philip Setzer. David additionally served as cellist of the Emerson String Quartet for thirty-four seasons.
With repertoire spanning virtually the entire literature for cello and piano, and a commitment to new music, David Finckel and Wu Han have commissioned numerous works for cello and piano, many of which are featured on the 2010 ArtistLed release, For David and Wu Han. The duo has released sixteen critically acclaimed recordings on their own ArtistLed label, available at www.artistled.com. The two most recent additions to the ArtistLed catalogue feature Antonin Dvorak’s Piano Trios with violinist Philip Setzer, and a disc of Clarinet Trios with clarinetist David Shifrin.
David Finckel and Wu Han serve as Artistic Directors of both the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and Music@Menlo, a Silicon Valley chamber music festival founded in 2003. In 2011, they became Artistic Directors of Chamber Music Today, an annual chamber music festival in Korea. David Finckel was named honoree and Artistic Director of the Mendelssohn Fellowship in 2012, focused on identifying young Korean musicians and expanding chamber music in Korea. The duo launched a new chamber music studio at Aspen Music Festival in the 2013 season.
